In the mid-27th century, the Terran Confederation is at war with the felinoid Kilrathi Empire. After destroying a Terran base, the Kilrathi have seized a NAVCOM unit with the hyperspace jump coordinates to Earth. With Terran reinforcements scheduled to arrive two hours after the Kilrathi hit Earth, it falls upon the starfighter carrier TCS Tiger Claw to keep the Kilrathi busy. The descendants of the first ones to travel space are regarded as people of lesser worth. Half a millennium after the first ships launched in search of a better life, the Pilgrims still are discriminated. When the Kilrathi declare war against the human race, it is up to Christopher Blair, Pilgrim halfling, to help avoid complete annihilation. Since the Kilrathi managed to conquer a Navcom unit, they know the jump coordinates to Earth. And since the terran fleet is two hours further away from home than the Kilrathi fleet, the only hope of Mankind is to set trust in a Pilgrim, who can astrogate by feeling and does not need a Navcom unit - it's all genetics. anyone who played the wing commander series from start to finish will recognise the characters in the film, especially wing commander:prophecy. The plot itself is simple yet easy to follow. Matthew Lillard is up to his usual standard, and is perfectly cast as "maniac". Anyone who watches bbc's Holby city may recognise a few members of the crew also. all in all it could have been better, but then it could have been a lot worse. Within the genera of movies made from video games, this is pretty good. Within the wider genera of action films, it's passable.<br/><br/>The acting is mediocre. The dialog is a bit corny. The plot is simplistic. Most of the characters are two dimensional. The enemy aliens' characters are never developed at all. Their makeup isn't very good either. However, nothing stands out as being either really bad, or really good.<br/><br/>If you're looking for something to fill time, catch a matinee of this, but don't pay full price. There are enough special effects so it may not transfer as well to video and the small screen. While much of the film is taken over by enormously entertaining dogfight sequences … much of it also rests on the narrative drive, which seems clipped part and parcel from one of those old “Why We Fight” documentaries that Frank Capra doled out to keep our G.I.s in fighting mode.
